About Us

Anna Huddleson and R. S. Austin in the old building in Clarion, Iowa in 1908.

Wright Abstracting & Land Title Company is one of the oldest firms in Clarion, Iowa. In 1883, M.H. Austin opened Austin Abstract Company. The Austin family ran the business through three generations, with R. S. Austin in charge from 1904 to 1905, and continued through 1964, by R. Ralph Austin. Al Saylor purchased the business from Austin and ran the company until 1976, when it was sold to Lyle Morgan, who renamed it Wright County Land Title Company.

The business was originally next door to its present location. In 1917, R. S. Austin tore down his building and one building located to the west. He replaced the two buildings and installed his office in the west location where it sits today. The office is built as a vault to house all the recordings and files dating back to 1856.

In 1995, Jan Jerde purchased the company and continued the long history of providing title work in Wright County. Jerde sold the company to Carol Haupt in 2019, when it was renamed Wright Abstracting & Land Title Company.

Carol brings over 30 years of real estate experience to the land title profession. Tyler Haupt, her son, is an abstracter and certified land title professional. He also is a graduate of Iowa State University. Carol and Tyler plan to preserve the long history of their predecessors and continue to provide Wright County with timely, accurate and affordable title services for many years to come.
